[i.e., On the conversion of Brogovic Yure from Ogulin]: Manuscript in Bosnian addressing “Gospodin Reis Ulemi” [i.e., Sir Reis-ul-Ulema], Mesnevihân Mehmed Džemaluddin ef. Čaušević (1870-1938), was the fourth Reis-ul-ulemâ in the period of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.

Original manuscript in black ink. 20x14,5 cm. In Bosnian and a short manuscript descriptive note about content of the document in Ottoman Turkish on verso. 2 p. Bifolium. Dated 4/21/1925.

This extremely rare manuscript document of “ihtida” [i.e., conversion to Islam] written in the period of the early Kingdom of Yugoslavia, addressed to religious leader of the Yugoslavian Muslims and one of the most significant and influential Bosnian personalities of the 20th century, Mesnevihân Mehmed Džemaluddin ef. Čaušević who served from 1914 to 1930.

“Since I have a strong desire to convert from the Roman Catholic religion to Mohammedanism, they asked me for, that is, where should I submit it, what kind of documents I have, how to file it, and how I be redeemed? You can find all kinds of information below”. Then this citizen of Yugoslavia named Brogovic Yure wrote his short biography: “I was born in 1895, in the town of Ogulin, municipality of Isrezoisto, I’m married and the father of three daughters…”
