Ettela’at, [Tehran?], January 1965.

Original pictorial wrappers. Large roy. 8vo. (25 x 17 cm). In English. [vii], [1], 96 p., 37 unnumbered b/w photographic plates, most of them are full paged. A fine copy.

The first and only edition of this scarce modern book on Yemen history, printed by a publishing house with the same name as the Iranian newspaper “Ettela’at”. The book, written by El-Shoureki, a specialist on the Arabic world, focuses on the colonial invasions and conflicts throughout Yemeni history.

Ettela’at is a Persian language daily newspaper of record published in Iran (seemingly, the publishing house belongs to the newspaper in Tehran). It is among the oldest publications in the country, and the oldest-running Persian daily newspaper in the world. The paper has a conservative stance and focuses on political, cultural, social, and economic news. Until the revolution of 1979, the newspaper was associated with its chief founder Abbas Massoudi (1895-1974).

As of April 2024, OCLC shows eleven copies of the book (15627957 & 1243772338); four of them are in North American libraries (Emory University, LoC, New York Public Library System, and Columbia University in the City of New York).
