KARAGÖZ.

Istanbul, 1951.

A scarce special issue of the long-running Turkish magazine Karagöz, dedicated to the Korean War. This issue includes an epic poem honouring the Turkish Brigade in Korea, along with a folded colour poster depicting a battle scene involving the Korean and Turkish soldiers, press photos from the war front, and recent news. Published as a propaganda piece, it aimed to boost nationalist sentiment and garner public support for Turkey's involvement in the war under the United Nations Command and the United States of America. The poem was written by Asik Keles, and the poster was drawn by famous Turkish cartoonist Ratip Tahir Burak (1904-1977).
