Original half leather. Five raised bands to the spine. Decorations and title gilt on the spine. Marbled boards with original endpapers. Demy 8vo. (22 x 14 cm). In Ottoman script (Old Turkish with Arabic letters). 272 p., 14 folded plates, numerous b/w ills.

Lithograph. First and only edition of this early rare Ottoman edition of "Euclid's Elements" by English teacher of mathematics and author Bonnycastle, who was appointed Professor of Mathematics at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, where he remained until his death on 15 May 1821, translated by Tamânî and Selim Efendi, who were Turkish teachers of mathematics in the Ottoman Naval School. This book is one of the earliest translated textbooks on algebra, and it's translated for the Turkish navigators.
