Original autograph letter signed 'Habib Edib' addressed to the famous publisher, translator, intellectual, and author Ahmet Ihsan Tokgöz, with its attractive lithographed 'Bosporus' letterhead. 29x22,5 cm. In Ottoman script with German partly printed titles. 1 p. Full. A pair of punch holes on the left side. Dated 23/10/[19]34. It starts with 'Ahmed Ihsan Beyefendi'ye...'. This very important manuscript autograph letter on early Turkish publishing history is sent from a Turkish press baron to another famous publisher. Törehan was a Turkish merchant and newspaper boss. He made a great fortune from his commercial activities during World War II; he began publishing the newspaper 'Yeni Istanbul' in 1949. Working in law and economics in Berlin, Habip Edip Bey wrote articles about the unlawfulness to the Turkish people at the end of World War I and published them in German newspapers. After the proclamation of the Republic in Turkey has continued to publish articles in order to promote the new state. He published his writings in Die Türkei (1919) and Die Türkei Von Gestern Und Heute (1928). During his student years in Berlin, he also published a book aimed at teaching Turkish to the Germans and a translation of the stories of Turkish authors. In Germany, he started to wrap oriental tobacco by hand and turned the cigarette production into a factory of 250-300 people and a widespread distribution network. In 1949, he founded the newspaper 'Yeni Istanbul' in Turkey. Yeni Istanbul has become one of the pioneers of economic journalism by publishing commodity exchanges and securities movements every day. The newspaper reached a high circulation thanks to bonus campaigns. After residing in Switzerland until 1965, he moved his business to Monaco for the heavier of tax laws.
