After the Second World War Böttcher lived in the GDR, where his literary works were published at that time, but also had a residence in the Federal Republic. Towards the end of the 1950s he went to West Germany, where he lived in Sprendlingen in Hesse. Helmuth Maximilian Böttcher was the author of novels, short stories, plays and radio plays.
