Huseyin Feyizhanof, brother of Abdulallam Feyizhanof, was one of the first university professors of the Tatars and one of the important intellectuals of the Tatar Turks at the end of the 19th century. Hüseyin Feyizhanof, (1826-1886), gave lectures in St. Petersburg Faculty of Oriental Sciences and was elected a member of the Imperial Archaeological Society (Lemercier-Quelquejay 1963: 120). He also prepared a "Turkish grammar" in Russian. His brother Abdulallam Feyizhanof (the author of this book) also learned Russian and was closely involved with the political problems of Central Asia and the Volga region. The Feyizhanofs dealt with the problem of the Russian Muslims as a whole. In this book, which was published in 1893, Abdülallam showed the situation of the Russian Muslims as a whole in the economic and cultural field against the "Russian competition".
